As Valentine’s Day rolls around the corner, two thoughts come to mind: iconic romantic comedies and the struggles of modern dating. Like Kat, I too have found the modern dating pool to be quite the shallow dive, so finding a valentine calls for some additional help. Since I don’t have a wingman like Cameron James on my side, I have resorted to a modern solution for a modern problem: dating apps. But dating apps are not all they are cracked up to be, which is why I have come up with 10 Things I Hate About Tinder. So, dear Tinder, while there are many things I hate about you, mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you, not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.

On Dec. 6, 1992, Pittsburgh Pirates star outfielder 28-year-old Barry Bonds signed a record-breaking deal at the time: a six-year, $43.75–million contract with the San Francisco Giants. While he was always able to produce during the regular season, Pittsburgh consistently struggled in the postseason. While Bonds was great with Pittsburgh, it does not hold a candle to what he did in San Francisco. Many baseball players, including Bonds and McGwire, were summoned to testify in the investigation. On April 25, 2004, a bombshell was dropped when the supposed supplier, Victor Conte Jr., revealed the 27 athletes who received steroids from him including Bonds.

The United States relationship with Russia changed drastically, as they are on opposing sides of this war. This gave Russia no incentive to go easy on Griner instead using her as leverage against the United States. While CBD oil is legal in parts of the United States, including Phoenix, it is not legal in Russia. She also hoped that her use of CBD oil for medical reasons could help her case. One of the reasons that Griner’s sentence is so long might have something to do with Russia’s notorious stance on the LGBTQ+ community.

In other news, students who attend Central, Eastern, Western and Southern Connecticut State Universities will see a tuition increase for the 2023 to 2024 academic year. The Board of Regents of Higher Education said on Oct. 20, “to increase tuition and fees at Central, Eastern, Western and Southern Connecticut State University,” according to WTNH. Students and staff from the state universities and community colleges protested against the increases and have chanted “Education is a right.

Editorial: Greenwashing won’t solve the climate crisis!

Many of UConn’s environmental recommendations are aimed towards students’ actions despite the fact that UConn as an institution contributes significantly more to climate change. This is entirely insufficient to address the mounting threats of global catastrophe posed by climate change and the economic and political systems fueling it. The function of this is to create a facade of sustainability where sustainability does not authentically exist. While we recognize the importance of pushing for truly fossil fuel-free institutions to combat the climate crisis, it is more important to recognize that UConn is not and cannot be the end-all-be-all of climate activism and organizing. To remedy this — to win long-term and widespread environmental justice — activists must adopt a political vision of environmental justice too.
