UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Bahrain sign 12 industrial agreements worth $2 billion

February 27, 2023DUBAI — Companies from the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Egypt and Bahrain signed industrial agreements with an investment value of over $2 billion at the third Higher Committee Meeting of the Industrial Partnership for Sustainable Economic Development in Amman on Sunday. Twelve agreements were signed for nine industrial projects in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, metals, chemicals and electric vehicles, according to the governmental Jordan News Agency, Petra. The project will establish three electric vehicle factories with specialized production and assembly lines in the UAE, Jordan and Egypt. At an investment value of $174 million over two phases, the project’s production capacity is expected to reach 350 million pills per year. Last year the annual event took place in Cairo, where 12 projects worth $3.4 billion were announced.

Ever since I reinstalled my bird feeders this winter, I’ve been concerned that our usual flock of neighborhood birds has been shunning us. Over last summer, I had seen fewer birds than I remembered, but a nice variety, from goldfinches and chickadees to nuthatches and cardinals. Are there simply fewer birds? So, yes, there are fewer birds in backyards, as in other habitats. If there are fewer birds, those remaining will go where they have the plants and insects they have co-evolved with over millennia for shelter and food sources.

Ecowas maintains sanctions on Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso

A bid by three West African countries still under military rule to re-join the African Union (AU) flopped on Sunday after their local bloc, the Economic Community of West African States (Ecowas), maintained sanctions imposed on them. It means Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso’s concerted effort of seeking to re-join the AU failed. Normally, the AU suspends countries that undergo unconstitutional changes in government such as coups until they provide a regular programme to resume civilian leaderships. Suspended indefinitelyMali, Guinea and Burkina Faso were indefinitely suspended from Ecowas at various times between 2020 and 2022. Ahead of the AU Summit, foreign ministers of Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso had travelled to the Ethiopian capital on joint a diplomatic push for a readmission and the lifting of Ecowas sanctions.
