Erling Haaland has already taken one of Sergio Aguero’s scoring records for Manchester City. That’s more than any player has scored in a single campaign for City since the league started in 1992. Aguero had the previous highest total of 26 in 2014-15, part of his record all-time haul of 260 for City in all competitions. The scary thing about Haaland is that he still has 13 matches remaining in the league. Arsenal stayed two points clear of second-placed City with a game to spare.
The Sydney Morning Herald’s Mike Foley tells us that 20 per cent of development applications relating to proposals ‘threatening koala habitat’ are for renewables. After the listing, ‘previously unknown’ koalas started popping up everywhere in New South Wales. NSW multi-million dollar Bushfire Research Hub gave advice to the Black Summer Inquiry and got increased funding. The others included Black Thursday 1851, Red Tuesday 1898, Black Friday 1939, and Black Summer 2009. It would solve Minister Plibersek’s dilemma, but it wouldn’t suit the Fake Renewables Industry, the Bushfire Industry or the Koala Industry.1 month ago The Spectator Australia
The remains of the crash victims would be brought down the volcano on Thursday, he said. The company deployed teams backed by helicopters and drones to help in the search, which was hampered by heavy rains, gusty wind and thick clouds. The mayor oversaw the search for the Cessna aircraft by nearly 200 army troops, firefighters and volunteers, including veteran mountaineers. “My heart goes out to people who were there visiting the Philippines who tragically won’t return to their families,” he added. The wreckage was spotted in an aerial search on Sunday on the slope of the 8,077-foot (2,462-meter) volcano but an air force helicopter only managed to ferry the search team near the crash site Wednesday morning after the weather improved, officials said.1 month ago Hamilton Spectator
Yet Prince Andrew is not to be outdone – even if the attention that he receives may not always be welcome. This follows the inevitable withdrawal of public funds after he ceased to be a working member of the royal family. King Charles has made it clear that his vision of the monarchy is as a slimmed-down institution; removing Prince Andrew’s dependence on the taxpayer (as far as possible) will surely trim the fat from the operation with admirable ruthlessness. Prince Andrew’s decision to settle with Giuffre without admitting guilt – and now, apparently, attempting to overturn the financial settlement – has done nothing for his public reputation. Likewise, the Newsnight dramatisation will rake over the still-smouldering embers of the story; it is unlikely that Sewell’s portrayal of Andrew will be a sympathetic one.1 month ago The Spectator
MADRID (AP) — With yet another win, Barcelona left its problems off the field after a turbulent week. Barcelona defeated Cadiz 2-0 on Sunday as it extended its winning streak and lead over Real Madrid in the Spanish league. Sergi Roberto and Robert Lewandowski scored late in the first half to give Barcelona its seventh straight league win and get its lead over second-place Madrid back to eight points. Madrid had cut the gap to five points with a 2-0 win at Osasuna on Saturday. Atletico is 10 points behind city rival Real Madrid and 18 points behind league leader Barcelona.1 month ago Hamilton Spectator
India, together with China, consumed 67 per cent of the world’s coal in 2022, up from 35 per cent in 2000. China itself claims to be moving toward a renewables future but their new coal generator build is proceeding apace. It hosts over half of the world’s coal plants and this is likely to increase since China accounts for over two-thirds of plants listed as planned or under construction. Australian coal energy generation is a little over 1 per cent of global capacity, a share that has been falling as new plants are opened overseas. Thus, even in nominal dollars, coal mining capital expenditure is below its level a decade ago and mining spending as a whole is down by a half.1 month ago The Spectator Australia
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Five former Memphis police officers pleaded not guilty Friday to second-degree murder and other charges in the violent arrest and death of Tyre Nichols, with his mother saying afterward that none of them would look her in the eye in court. Bean admitted to police investigators he punched Nichols two or three times in the face because officers weren’t able to handcuff Nichols. Bean also held Nichols by one of his arms while Nichols was pepper-sprayed, kicked, punched and beaten with a baton. She disbanded the Scorpion unit, which she created in November 2021, after Nichols’ death. On this basis, Rishi Sunak is entitled to point to a modest enhancement of his political capital via the business of the downfall of Nicola Sturgeon. Most popular Katy Balls After Sturgeon: what’s the future for Scotland – and the Union? He never gave the SNP leader grounds to caricature him as an arrogant Sassenach who could be suspected of being in sympathy with the redcoats who once upon a time chased poor Mel Gibson around peatbogs. There were voices in his inner circle arguing that he should not risk a direct confrontation with the Scottish parliament. She never thought that when Boris was Billy Buntering his way through the political jungle.1 month ago The Spectator
