Hyderabad: India has a unique opportunity, thanks to its concentration of talent and capability in development of medicine and its leadership in G20 to help the world transform how it responds to future infectious diseases, Richard Hatchett, CEO, Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) said during a panel discussion on Operationalising the One Health Approach at BioAsia 2023.NITI Aayog member (health) Dr VK Paul said there is a need for countries to share data in a timely manner to tackle future pandemics.He said India developed vaccines based on a range of platforms and delivered 2.2 billion doses Indian citizens and also exported 258 million doses to over 100 countries through its Vaccine Maitri programme in addition to supplying 292 million doses to over 100 countries via Covax programme.In a panel discussion onHealthcare for all, Dr Shyam Bishen, member of executive committee of World Economic Forum said, “We are planning to set up in Hyderabad the centre for 4th Industrial revolution that we signed in Davos. Its a CoE for lifesciences where we will use digital technologies like AI & ML, virtual and augmented reality to increase access to healthcare services.”During a session on Healthcare reimagined, Agam Upadhyay, SVP & CTO, GSK, said the Metaverse is creating an immersive experience. “It's an ecosystem driving businesses. Right now we are all driven towards how we create a healthcare environment and bring medicines faster into the market and launch products successfully.”Moderna co-founder and Massachusetts Institute of Technology Prof Robert S Langer was conferred virtually the Genome Valley Excellence Award 2023 for his pioneering research that led to the development of the first commercial mRNA vaccines as well as his work on cancer.An EY-BioAsia 2023 report on `Shaping the next generation of digital and data driven healthcare and sustainable practices’ was also released on the occasion.The report highlighted the need to shift towards an intelligent health ecosystem to deliver personalised health experiences, the need for technology driven transformation across the pharma value chain.It also talked about the revolution in patient centric, virtual, and home-based care opening opportunities that are in store for medtech sector and spoke about the need for lifesciences companies creating long term growth by focusing on sustainability and ESG.
