This week we’ve got black holes behaving badly, some less-than-stellar news about China’s mars rover and more. (NASA/JPL-Caltech/UArizona)In other international space news, China’s version of the Mars rover, the Zhurong rover, seems not to be doing a lot of roving. First up, a supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy appears to be slurping up a giant cloud of dust orbiting around it. The black hole, Sagittarius A, is surrounded by a dust filament about 50 times the mass of the Earth.

England 90 runs from 2nd test and series win in New Zealand

England resumed at 48-1, chasing 258 to win the match and series. At lunch Root was 74, Ben Stokes was 20 and England needed 90 runs to claim its seventh consecutive test win and its fourth victory in five series. New Zealand has been on the back foot through most of the two-match series, losing the first test by 267 runs and being forced to follow-on 226 behind in the current test. It now faces its first series loss at home in 10 series since 2017. While Root took scored his 74 at a run a ball, Stokes took his 20 runs from 75 deliveries.

Messi beats Mbappe to FIFA Best prize, Putellas claims women's award

Lionel Messi won The Best FIFA men's player prize for 2022 on Monday on the back of his World Cup triumph with Argentina and Spain's Alexia Putellas retained the women's award at a ceremony in Paris. Messi beat his Paris Saint-Germain teammate, and World Cup final rival, Kylian Mbappe to the men's gong with Ballon d'Or winner Karim Benzema having been the other contender to claim the prize. In the end I got it and it was the most beautiful thing that has happened in my career," Messi said of his World Cup win as he collected his award. Argentina's World Cup win in Qatar was also recognised as Lionel Scaloni claimed the men's coach's honour and Emiliano Martinez was named the best male goalkeeper. Meanwhile, England's European Championship victory helped their Dutch manager Sarina Wiegman win the prize for best women's coach, while Mary Earps was named the women's goalkeeper of the year.
