PARIS — (AP) — World Cup champion Lionel Messi edged Kylian Mbappé again, this time to take FIFA’s best men’s player award on Monday. The best women’s player was Spain's Alexia Putellas for a second straight year. The 35-year-old Messi also beat Mbappé — who was seeking his first best player award from FIFA — to the Golden Ball trophy awarded by FIFA for the World Cup’s best player. Messi broke a record he shared with Ronaldo by making the men's world best XI for the 16th time. Messi voted for former Barcelona teammate Neymar as his choice for best player.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen signed off on the deal at a meeting in Windsor, England. Selling the deal to his own Conservative Party and its Northern Ireland allies may be a tougher struggle. Northern Ireland is the only part of the U.K. that shares a border with an EU member, the Republic of Ireland.21 days ago WFTV

Most critics of the death penalty responded to the moratorium and review with, at best, faint praise — calling it a first step. There's also proposed legislation to strike the death penalty from U.S. statutes and resentence the more than 40 inmates still on federal death row to life. Capital punishment has been a hot-button issue politically in the past but is less so now after support for capital punishment has fallen in recent decades.2 months ago WFTV
China reported its trade shrank in October as global demand weakened and anti-virus controls weighed on domestic consumer spending. On Monday, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index gained 2.8% to 16,612.61 and the Shanghai Composite rose 0.2% to 3,077.85. Market watchers had data on the U.S. jobs market to digest, considering what it might mean for interest rates and the odds of a recession. Fed Chair Jerome Powell has called out a still-hot jobs market as one of the reasons the central bank may ultimately have to raise rates higher than earlier thought. The 10-year yield, which helps dictate rates for mortgages and other loans, edged higher to 4.16% from 4.15%.4 months ago WFTV
