A report has claimed that the US blew up Nord Stream gas pipelines with Norway's help in September 2022 in a covert operation. In a report by American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh, the bombing of the undersea Nord Stream gas pipelines was carried out by the US. Besides, the US wanted to reduce the dependence of Western Europe, particularly Germany, on inexpensive Russian gas, the report said. The signal spread underwater, initially to Nord Stream 2 and then on to Nord Stream 1. The controversial pipeline is owned and operated by Nord Stream AG, whose majority shareholder is the Russian state-owned company Gazprom.

India's equity market will rise less this year than thought a few months ago mainly due to expectations of higher interest rates, according to equity strategists polled by Reuters, who also said the chances of a correction in the near-term were low. While investor sentiment is expected to improve over the coming months, a sharp rally appears unlikely, partly on renewed expectations of higher interest rates in India and elsewhere. "Since October, Indian equities have seen their sharpest underperformance to EM (emerging market) peers in three years. This has shrunk the valuation premium to emerging equity peers, but not enough to bring foreign investors back," said Rajat Agarwal, Asia equity strategist at Societe Generale. It was then expected to gain another 4% to hit 65,000 by year-end, the Feb. 10-22 poll found.

According to bankers, conmen on Twitter, sporting official bank logos on their profile, seek out customers airing grievances and respond with a fake customer care number. A search on Twitter showed large private sector banks such as ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank draw a significant number of such fake customer care handles. “We have a team that scans social media to spot such fake accounts and immediately informs customers not to engage with them. Most fake accounts use the bank’s logo, and in the case of one bank, they were found using images from the lender’s fraud awareness campaign. Bankers said that apart from seeking the removal of these fake accounts, they are also engaging in customer awareness campaigns.
