Mumbai: Addressing a predominantly male audience of about 10,000 in Mumbra, the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asadauddin Owaisi hit out at Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot, and the Nitish Kumar-Tejasvi Yadav combine for their “fake” secularism. If Muslim votes go to Owaisi, Shinde will be the beneficiary, pointed out Mumbra’s Muslims. Drawing attention to the change in name of Aurangabad to Sambhaji Nagar, Owaisi said that both the Congress and Pawar had welcomed it. Earlier in Navi Mumbai, Owasi had ruled out any possibility of alliance with any opposition parties to the ruling government. They are not saying.”(With inputs by G. Mohiuddin Jeddy, in Navi Mumbai)

In relief to SpiceJet, lessor converts dues into stake

NEW DELHI: In a relief to SpiceJet , its biggest lessor Carlyle Aviation Partner has decided to convert $100-million dues to the airline into equity shares and compulsorily convertible debentures (CCDs). The cargo business transfer will be discharged by SXPL by issuing securities in the combination of equity shares and CCDs for an aggregate amount of Rs 2,556 crore. Following this transaction, Carlyle Aviation Partner will have over 7.5% equity stake in SpiceJet. "Additionally, SpiceJet will transfer CCDs of SpiceXpress and Logistics Pvt Ltd (SXPL), held by SpiceJet aggregating to $65.5 million, subject to regulatory approvals. The CCDs will be converted into equity shares of SpiceXpress at an anticipated future valuation of $1.5 billion or Rs 12,422 crore," the airline said.

Several research reports have highlighted the possibility of a drop in agricultural output, keeping inflation high during the current financial year.El Nino and La Nina are climate patterns in the Pacific ocean. While La Nina benefits India, the El Nino creates warmer winters, dryer & hotter summers, and a deficient monsoon.The US-based National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has predicted a re-emergence of El Nino with a high probability (55-60%) in June-December 2023. "Of the six times that NOAA ascribed a 45% or higher probability of El Nino in February, only three years saw El Nino actually panning out, while conditions were neutral (normal) in others. One of the main contributors is crude oil price and a decline can offset the increase in food prices.
