Phoenix Country Day finishes brilliant season with 2A girls' basketball titleSometimes, there’s no fairytale ending, no heroic upset. That’s what it felt like Saturday afternoon at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum, when Phoenix Country Day beat Pima, 54-43, to win the 2A state championship. But since the season tipped off back in November, PCDS has been one of the best teams not just in 2A but in the state. Head coach Sean Newland, now in his eighth year, noticed that this year’s team was different in pre-season. After a quarter, PCDS and Pima were tied.
