Balloons are regularly used to test new designs and conduct scientific experiments. Des Jardins is one of many scientific researchers across the country who have so far deployed balloons under the public’s radar. Balloons regularly conduct physics experiments, collect atmospheric data, and test new scientific equipment. Small balloons, such as those used by Des Jardins students, float into the stratosphere well above the operating altitude of airplanes. Guzik regularly works with large scientific balloons that closely resemble the Chinese spy balloon in appearance.
