The president of the second-largest university by enrollment in the nation hits “accept” when he sees Gordon’s name. All of this formed the everyday backdrop when three Black faculty members at UCF founded BFSA in 1971. “I would sit in the front row and listen to them talk about going to college,” Stewart says. The university would name the student center after a former BFSA president, the late John T. Washington, a sociology professor who exemplified those tenants of advice and encouragement with students and colleagues as well as anyone. “Most of those presidents probably didn’t think they’d ever be meeting at the home of UCF’s president,” Gordon says.28 days ago University of Central Florida
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The vantage point was as good as any at Riviera for a clear view of Tiger Woods, and considering how little he plays, Tiger sightings are rare these days. The man positioned himself behind a stationary TV camera in a tower behind the 12th green as Woods made his way to the 13th tee. Then again, Woods might make his way to the TPC Sawgrass in three weeks for The Players Championship. That’s to be expected no matter where he goes because Woods plays so infrequently. There is golf and there is tournament golf, and they are not the same.1 month ago Sports Talk Florida

“It’s interesting also that we’ve had probably as much player movement this year than at any time in our history,” Silver said. In other matters Silver addressed Saturday:LABOR UPDATETalks between the NBA and NBPA are continuing with hopes of getting a new labor deal done. “It’s something that I don’t think we’re approaching in an adversarial way with the players association,” Silver said. “It largely affects the regular season for the NBA in terms of distributing, delivering those games directly to our consumers. “In the mid-term, it’s an issue we’re going to have to work through.”___AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/NBA and https://twitter.com/AP_Sports1 month ago Sports Talk Florida
The Supreme Court’s so-called Bruen decision changed the test that lower courts had long used for evaluating challenges to firearm restrictions. In several instances, judges looking at the same laws have come down on opposite sides on whether they are constitutional in the wake of the conservative Supreme Court majority’s ruling. The legal turmoil caused by the first major gun ruling in a decade will likely force the Supreme Court to step in again soon to provide more guidance for judges. Gun control activists have decried the Supreme Court’s historical test, but say they remain confident that many gun restrictions will survive challenges. Already, some gun laws passed in the wake of the Supreme Court decision have been shot down.1 month ago News Talk Florida
